Insight: Open Adoption Resources is a website and non profit organization run by birthmother Brenda Romanchik.
From their home page:
We are not affiliated with any adoption agency or facilitation service. It is our hope that people at all stages of the adoption process can find the information and support they need to have healthy open adoption relationships.
The Insight website has lots of great resources and information for all members of the adoption triad. They have a great section specifically for expectant parents considering adoption containing a lot of valuable information on open adoption and things for you to the think about. Some of the topics covered in the expectant parents considering adoption section are:
- Why you are a parent and NOT a birthparent
- Making a fully informed decision
- Who To Work With????
- Choices in Adoption
- The Adoption Process
- The Admissions Process
- Exploring Parenting
- Exploring Adoption
- The Planning Process
- Choosing Prospective Adoptive Parents
- Working Together With the Prospective Adoptive Parents
- The Birth and After
- Special Circumstances
However a few parts of that page are under construction and hopefully be updated with the information soon. There’s also an
entrustment ceremony page with a detailed explanation of entrustment ceremonies.
The site contains other information besides the info for expectant parents considering adoption. I love the explanations and definition of open adoption on the
“what is open adoption page.” Even though you are not a birthparent, reading the birthparent page may be helpful to see some of the things you may face if you do choose adoption. The
birthparent page features a birthparents role and a birthparents manifesto.
On the site, four pocket guides are also available for
purchase on open adoption, birth parent grief, rights and responsibilities for expecting parents considering adoption, and finding your role as a birthparent.
There is definitely a ton of information for anyone partaking in or considering an open adoption, so check out Insight: Open Adoption Resources and Support.
