I recently ran across an interesting
article about positive affirmations during pregnancy. At first, as I was reading and thinking about what I was reading, I thought it was a little on the kooky side but as I continued to think about it, it began to make sense to me.
Think about it – how many times in pregnancy have you said or thought something negative? I think that a lot of women in unplanned pregnancies probably have low self esteem during the pregnancy and negative statements and thoughts only feed an already low self esteem. Looking back, I know I did this a lot! A few of the negative thoughts I can recall saying to myself during pregnancy are:
- I’m so big I look like Shamoo the whale!
- People who see me unmarried and pregnant must think I am a slut.
- How could I have been so stupid to let myself get pregnant again?
- I'm a terrible mother for making an adoption plan.
Gosh, typing those statements out I realize some of them aren’t even rationale!
So what exactly is an affirmation? Affirmations are statements that you use to help instill a sense of positivity in your mind about a particular subject. You use these short phrases and sentences to help your mind hear a positive message that you wish it to remember.
Basically, affirmations are anything positive that you are saying to your self. You can come up with your own affirmations or you can use some of the examples of affirmations listed below.
- I’m special.
- I’m beautiful.
- My pregnant body is beautiful.
- I love my baby.
- My baby loves me.
- I am worthy of love and being loved.
- I am creative.
- I am loving.
- I deserve good things in my life.
- I am grateful for what I do have.
- I am in charge of my life and responsible for the directions I travel.
So start practicing the power of positive thinking through affirmations today!
