Making the decision of whether to place your baby for adoption or to raise him or her is a huge decision that requires a lot of thought and time. It really is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) decisions you will ever have to make in your lifetime. It’s truly a decision that can not be made overnight. Undoubtedly, you will need time to cope and deal with the shock and the reality that you are indeed pregnant before you begin trying to make this decision.
While you are researching and educating yourself about your options, take care of yourself. Below is a list of simple things that you should do in order to help you have a healthy pregnancy, delivery, and ultimately a healthy baby.
- Stop doing anything that is harmful to your body and your baby such as alcohol, recreational drugs, smoking, dangerous activities, etc. Don’t take any prescription drugs without check king with your doctor first to make sure they are safe for your baby.
- Find a doctor and start going regularly as instructed during your pregnancy. Prenatal care is important. Your doctor will most likely prescribe prenatal vitamins. Begin taking these daily (or as instructed) by your doctor.
- Begin taking care of yourself, your body, and your baby. It’s not just you anymore and the best way to take care of your baby while you are pregnant is to take care of yourself. Get plenty of rest when possible, begin eating healthier foods, exercise in moderation, and take care of yourself.
Once you have had time to absorb the shock that you are pregnant, then you can begin to dive into researching your options, resources, and making the best decision possible for your baby and yourself.
