In a previous post, I mentioned a new show that will be premiering on ABC tomorrow night and I’ve learned more about it after watching Molly Ringwald talk about it this morning on one of the morning shows.

The Secret Life of an American Teenager is a new teen angst drama. Molly Ringwald is in this new show. You remember her, don’t ya? She played several lead teen roles (Sixteen Candles) in several movies in the 80’s. Well, she’s grown up and now she’s playing the mother Amy, one of the lead characters.

Amy Juergens, is a fifteen year old high school student. She’s a good kid, shy, talented, smart, has a big heart, is in the band, and considered to be a “band geek.” Oh, and did I mention she’s pregnant? In the first episode, Amy learns that she is pregnant after one fateful night at band camp with Ricky, the “bad boy,” womanizing drummer of the band. She shares this secret with her two best girlfriends while she begins to try and find alone time to tell her parents that she is pregnant but doesn’t find the right time until around the sixth episode.

But it doesn’t end there. We also learn that Amy’s mother (played by Molly Ringwald) married Amy’s father after learning that she was pregnant with Amy at a young age. So are we seeing history repeat itself through this family?

This show just seems to be one in the latest influx of shows and news relating to teen pregnancy. I honestly haven’t decided if I am going to watch it or not. I sometimes dig teen angst dramas but I feel bombarded with teen pregnancy on television this summer, but if you do watch it, let me know what you think, ok?
