“Being a mother is a noble status, right? So why does it change when you put ‘unwed' or ‘welfare' in front of it?” ~ Gloria Steinem

In this post we will explore some resources and support sites that will help you with some of the issues mentioned in the previous posts. I haven’t personally used many of the resources and support sites listed below so I can not personally attest to them. However, they do look like they provide helpful and useful information. I am assuming that some people in unplanned pregnancies will be or become single mothers so some of the resources provided are directed specifically towards single mothers, while others are not so specific.

Housing

  • Co-Adobe- Co-Adobe offers share housing to single mothers. Through their program, single mothers can share housing and living expenses with another single mother.

  • SPONSOR

  • Department of Housing and Urban Development Guide to Finding Housing

Government Resources

Child Support
Office of Child Support Enforcement- You are entitled to child support. The father of your baby can be required to pay child support whether you are still in a steady relationship or not.

Single Parent Support

  • Single Rose- Website with lots of information for today’s single mother. Some of the information includes the following topics: Child Support, Chronic Illness, Children’s Books, Colleges and Scholarships, Divorce Recovery, Health, Emergency and Crisis Assistance, Single Parenting, Stress, Women in Business, etc.. They even have an Angel's Program to help out single parents with Christmas gifts for their children.

  • Single Parents Making Lemonade

  • Single Mother Resources- This website provides links for emotional and financial support including grants and scholarship information for single mothers.

In the next post we will talk about the necessities you will need for parenting a baby…
