Taking care of yourself is one of the most important things you can do, especially if you’re pregnant–whether it’s a planned or unplanned pregnancy. However, this may be difficult to do while you’re sorting through your unplanned pregnancy options. The process of sorting through your options can be long, tedious, and sometimes overwhelming, as you have many facts to consider, but taking care of yourself emotionally, physically, and mentally is a crucial part of making an informed decision. And an informed decision is the best decision you could ever make.
Mentally: During this important period of decision-making, your mind can seem to get in the way sometimes. And because of this, it’s important to take some mental breaks throughout the process. When you begin to feel overwhelmed, take a break and do something you enjoy–whether that’s reading a book or going to a movie. And sometimes it is in these moments where you might get a clearer solution to your current situation.
Physically: Make sure you get the proper nutrition you need to support both your body and your baby’s growing and developing body. Drink plenty of water and get some exercise after you consult with your doctor first. The health basics can go a long way to helping you have a healthy pregnancy, no matter which decision you end up making.
Emotionally: An unplanned pregnancy can be quite an emotionally exhausting experience. You have to analyze your own situation, how you got there, and what you’re going to do next. All of these things use your emotional energy. Find ways to deal with your emotions, like support groups, counseling, or even just a nap.
You could decide to parent, terminate the pregnancy, or place your child for adoption. Whichever you choose, remember to take care of yourself. Even if you can only spare a few minutes each day for yourself, use them to boost your emotional, physical, and mental health. You won’t regret it.
