1228123_pregnancyIf you’re experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, it can be scary and sometimes unsettling. For some, it is a place full of confusion. But, it doesn’t have to be. It can be a time of self-understanding, self-acceptance, and introspection. It is a time to delve into and analyze how you see your life a few months and then a few years down the road. In order to fully comprehend and make an informed decision, here are some things you can do:

Take Time for Yourself: First things first. Take time to think and to feel. Find an empty, quiet place to do this. Take as much time as you need. The first step is to accept that you are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Once you are able to wrap your mind around that, you can begin to sort out your options.

Speak to Your Partner: While sometimes situations don’t permit or encourage interaction with the partner, it may be good to speak with them. Discuss your options together, and try to come to a common conclusion. Your partner can give you support through whichever option you choose is best.

Weigh Your Goals and Options: What did you have planned for your life? What are your options with this unplanned pregnancy? List your options in numerical order according to preference. This will give you a visual representation of what you feel comfortable with.

Speak with A Counselor: If you need additional support and information, talk to a counselor. He or she can help you talk out your concerns and come to a realization about what you feel you need to do. Your counselor may also have additional information and details about your options.

Educate Yourself: In order to fully understand all your options, research is required. Take the time to comprehend the pros and cons of each possible decision. Only then can you make an informed decision. If you can, talk with people who have been in similar situations. Ask them how they came to their decision and what effects have they seen as a result.

Whichever decision you decide is best for you and your baby, it is important to feel comfortable. Be honest with yourself, and it will help you make the right decision for your specific situation.
