I am thankful (and lucky) that during my pregnancy I had good, knowledgeable, and caring doctors.
With my first son, Noah, I had a very complicated pregnancy, health wise. I ended up in the high risk unit of the hospital on bed rest for almost five weeks until he was born, six weeks early, with lots complications.
Because of all the complications with my pregnancy with Noah, I was automatically considered “high risk” with Charlie’s pregnancy and any subsequent pregnancies. Adding to the dilemma of my pregnancy with Charlie, I did not find out I was pregnant or begin to receive any prenatal care (since I didn’t know I was pregnant due to a failed birth control shot) until about twenty two-ish weeks of pregnancy. The first set of doctors I went to were not on their toes with my care and I just didn’t care for their attitudes in general, so I switched to a different doctors office and ended up seeing several different doctors in that practice over the course of pregnancy, all of whom I really liked and respected.
They were concerned about my health and of course, Charlie’s and were always very honest with me, but not to the point of having me terrified as some doctors have done in the past. They took necessary precautions and didn’t torture me with un-necessary ones. They were understanding and respectful of my wishes regarding my pregnancy and hospital stay and the adoption.
Charlie ended up having to be delivered (by c-section) four weeks early. The doctors were a little concerned but very optimistic that Charlie would be born with minimal complications. Because of their expertise, I delivered a very healthy, stable, four pound, six ounce, baby boy and for that I am thankful!
