Ugh, morning sickness – it’s the most dreaded part of pregnancy for some. It’s also one of the first symptoms some women may experience cluing them in that they are indeed pregnant. Morning sickness is absolutely no fun and for some (like me!) it’s not just morning sickness. You can have all day sickness that even lasts the entire pregnancy.
If you are experiencing the woes of morning sickness, below are a few tips that may help you cope.
- Stay away from spicy foods and foods that tend to have a strong reaction in the stomach. Learn to read your body so that you can tell what is good for it or what will make you sicker.
- Aim for bland type foods like toasts, crackers, applesauce, soups, etc. Although they don’t taste that great, you can typically keep them down easier. Once you know what will stay down, you try adding more foods to the list of what you can keep down.
- Make sure you are getting enough Vitamin B. It is essential for correct liver functioning and a correctly functioning liver is crucial in preventing morning sickness. Foods high in Vitamin B include whole grains, nuts, bananas, avocados, and chicken.
- Eat small portions regularly through out the day. By eating small portions through out the day, you will be keeping your blood sugar levels more even, which can prevent nausea.
- Don’t rush while eating. Take your time to eat and chew all your food properly. Eating on the go or shoving food in your mouth very quickly can make it harder to keep the food down if you are already feeling nauseous.
If you are still very nauseous and are not keeping much food down, be sure and let your doctor know. Sometimes, medications can be prescribed to help you feel less nauseous.
