Knocked Up, The Movie

I’ve heard a lot of hype about the new movie, Knocked Up, a comedy starring Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl (from Grey’s Anatomy) directed by writer and director Judd Apatow.

You can guess by the title that someone is going to be pregnant in this movie. Katherine Heigl plays Allison Scott a twenty four year old television reporter and news journalist who is on the fast track to success and a big career. She celebrates a promotion by a night of drinking out on the town where she meets goofy, slacker Ben Stone, played by Seth Rogen. A one night stand occurs.

Fast forward eight weeks and Allison finds herself in the midst of an unplanned pregnancy.

Director Judd Aptow says that he wanted the conversations revolving around the characters unplanned pregnancy to be as genuine and real as possible. They knew they wanted there to be a moment in which Seth Rogen’s character and his friends debate abortion.

Regarding the abortion debate, director Judd Apatow says
“It (meaning the abortion debate amongst the characters) is part of the movie, because the movie is about two people trying to decide how they are going to handle the fact that a baby is coming. The first decision you make is, ‘Am I going to keep the baby?’ - Source

The movie goes on to be described as two people who are trying to do the right thing, who decide to keep the baby, and try to like each other along the way.

The movie has received an R Rating (supposedly only because they show the crowning of the baby’s head in the delivery room seen) and is due (pun intended) to come out on June 1st.

I’m not sure how much like real life the movie will be, but it definitely looks funny and is on my “to see” list. This isn’t the type of movie I’d normally make a trip to the theater to see. Typically I’d wait until it comes out on DVD which is due out in the winter. The DVD includes a bonus disk full of comedic extras that didn't make the movie.
