Do you remember the Baby Evan case? He’s made the
news again!
In January of 2005, his story flooded the news waves. Heart wrenching videos released by the almost adoptive parents of Baby Evan, showed a crying child being torn away from the people who had been his main caregivers since he was born. The next day after that video flooded the news broadcasts, Evan’s biological parents released their own video, shot just hours after Evan left the adoptive parents home, showing a happy, relaxed, and playful little boy eating spaghetti with his biological mother, his mother’s husband, and his biological father.
Regardless of your opinions of where Evan should have ended up, the case was bound to catch your attention. Evan was placed for adoption by his biological mother directly following his birth to friends of the family, Dawn and Gene Scott. To make a very long story short, Evan’s biological father ended up contesting the adoption and after a long drawn out court battle, Evan’s biological mother and father ended up with shared custody.
Somehow tonight, I stumbled across Evan’s name and story and got an update on what is going on his life. I knew that the adoptive parents had appealed the court order after Evan made the trek up north with his biological parents but was not sure where he had ended up.
The answer was a little surprising to me. Apparently, his step dad (bio mother’s husband) was investigated for child abuse after striking Evan too hard during a punishment. He was arrested and a judge barred him from the family home of Evan’s mother, himself, and his 2 year old sister.
Evan’s biological father then pushed for full permanent custody of Evan and in May (2006) was awarded full permanent custody after his mother filed a petition to the courts allowing her husband to move back into their family home. The judge also ordered that Evan’s name, which was Evan Scott, then Evan Johnson, now be changed to Evan White, the same last name as his biological father.
I’m honestly not sure what to think of all the drama that poor little boy has been through. It’s obvious he is very wanted and loved though.
