In the midst of an unplanned pregnancy, it is probably hard to enjoy your pregnancy. You are stressed and worried about what you are going to do and trying to make decision for yours and your baby’s future, so enjoying the pregnancy may be the last thing on your mind. You may even have some terrible morning sickness (or all day sickness) or other pregnancy problems to deal with.
But in the midst of all the chaos that an unplanned pregnancy can bring, try to remember every now and again to enjoy your pregnancy. Celebrate the life you are carrying and the miracle that carrying a life truly can be.
Looking back, I do regret a bit that I didn’t enjoy my pregnancy more. I didn’t take many photos (I can’t think of any I have from my pregnancy with Charlie where you can actually see my stomach) or really do anything to remember my pregnancy by.
Here are two ideas to consider:
- Take pregnancy photos of your glorious large belly! This is one of the only times in life when it’s “ok” to have a big belly so indulge! Take photos around the same time each month or bi-weekly so you can see your baby bump grow. These would also be a neat keepsake for your child one day, whether you parent or make an adoption plan.
- Journal about your pregnancy. Journaling is a great tool to work through feelings but it’s also a great way to remember things. Write about the first time you felt the baby kick and other pregnancy milestones and moments as they come along. It’s also a great way to record your successes and changes through out the pregnancy.
Even though it may be a chaotic and stressful time during your pregnancy, try to slow down every once in awhile and enjoy it!
