One thing you definitely do not want to forget when packing for your upcoming hospital stay is your camera! Photos are cherished by any new mothers.
Ahead of time, you may want to give a little thought to how much you actually wanted photos or video of. Some Moms may want to get all up close and personally with cameras during delivery while others (like me) are more modest. Nowadays many hospitals have rules about cameras in the labor and delivery room; some allow them and some do not. So you will need to check with the hospital you are delivering at to see exactly what their policy is.
Even if you are not comfortable with cameras during delivery or your hospital doesn’t allow them, there is still time for some great photos once your child is born. I love my newborn photos of Charlie and really treasure them. However, in hindsight, I don’t think we took enough pictures and I don’t think I was creative enough with the pictures I did take. So, I have a few ideas for you.
You don’t need to be a professional photographer to capture great moments in film. And if you don’t have your own camera, try to borrow one from a family member or friend or opt for a disposable camera.
Some ideas for great newborn photos:
- Do you have a special “going home” outfit for your child? Be sure and get photos of him or her in that special outfit.
- If you have a special stuffed animal that you are sending with your child, be sure and take photos of him or her with that too.
- If you have other children, try and get some photos of them with the baby. I didn’t do that and totally regret it!
- Take photos from different angles. You’ll definitely want some close ups and photos of baby feet, toes, hands, etc. are always precious.
- Have someone take photos of you with your baby.
Frame them or put them in a scrapbook; whatever you do with them, these photos will be something that you will cherish forever.
