I’m a crafty girl – I like doing crafts and making things for my friends and family. I really wish I could sew. I have a sewing machine, I just can’t figure out how to thread the darn bobbin! Martha Stewart I am not!
But I LOVE making the no sew fleece blankets that are all the rave right now. They are simple to make, don’t take a whole lot of time, and they turn out cute and are something sweet and personable to give friends and family.
So, why not try making a no sew blanket for your baby? If you parent him or her, believe me, you can never have too many blankets and if you end up placing him or her for adoption, you will have a wonderful keepsake blanket to pass on made by his or her first mother. This will give you something to help past the time for the remainder of your pregnancy. Also, with the quickly approaching holidays, you could make blankets for friends and family as Christmas gifts.
Making the blankets is really easy, I promise! If it wasn’t easy, I couldn’t do it. Fleece comes in so many neat and different patterns nowadays from baby prints to animal prints to college prints. Make a blanket that reflects a little bit of your personality. Typically, fleece fabric is used with the blankets, but I have also used flannel. It’s a little cheaper and not quite as heavy if you were needing the blanket for the spring or summer months too.
Here are some instructions on how to make a fleece no sew tied blanket.
Amount of fabric needed:
Baby blanket- 1 ¼ yards each of 2 coordinating colors/prints
Child size – 1 ½ yards each of 2 coordinating colors/prints
Adult size – 2 – 2 ½ yards each of 2 coordinating colors/prints
Directions
- Lay out the 2 pieces of fleece on top of each other and trim the edges.
- Cut a 4 inch a square out of the corner on each side.
- Cut strips 1 inch wide and 4 inches up all the way around the blanket. For a more fringy look cut the strips ½ inch wide instead.
- After the strips are cut, join the 2 pieces of the blanket together by tying it in double knots.
It’s that easy! You are done and have a blanket! You can make a matching pillow in the same fashion.
