This week’s
featured birthmom is Jamie. As a single mother to one daughter, Jamie knows all that goes into being a parent so when she found herself in a second unplanned pregnancy; she began to think about adoption.
Jamie had only been in a temporary relationship with her baby’s father when she found out that he was abusing narcotics and had been charged with assaulting a female and was not supporting the children he already had. After finding out that information about her baby’s birthdad and knowing that she had little family support, Jamie ultimately decided that adoption would be the best option for her baby.
Jamie chose an open adoption so that she would be able to have some type of relationship with her daughter. After looking through many different family profiles, just three weeks before her daughter was born, Jamie finally found the perfect family for her daughter.
I was looking for someone strong in their Christian faith and with good emotional, and spiritual heritage. I also admired them because of their strong love for each other and their family.
Now, Jamie is still single and a lot more serious about parenting her oldest daughter who has recently just become a teenager! She’s taking life one day at a time and is taking a college course. Although she knows that she made the right decision for her daughter and enjoys being able to watch her grow from a distance, she grieves the loss of her daughter and her motherhood to her daily.
In conclusion, I asked Jamie what advice she’d have to share with pregnant women considering adoption regarding adoption. Below is Jamie’s advice in her own words.
Look at all of your options in real depth. Do not make a rash decision. It’s way too undoable and emotionally devastating to take lightly. Parenting has brought me way more joy than relinquishment has up to this point in my journey. Also, realize that not only will you experience a tremendous loss if you choose relinquishment so will your unborn baby and the rest of your family if you make this decision. It’s not a win/win situation like the adoption industry often paints it to be.
Thank you Jamie for sharing your story with us!
