You Are Not Bound to One Agency

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Crisis Pregnancy Blog at 06:51 am , 544 words, 205 views
Categories: Choosing an Agency

I see expectant parents lament the agency with whom they are working all the time. I applaud their gusto and knowledge because I didn't even know enough to complain about mine while I was pregnant and working with them on the placement of my child. However, I continue to see an error in thought that I just wanted to clear up for those who happen upon this blog by chance or search.

You, as an expectant parent, are not bound to any one agency.

You have paid them no money. While you may have done things like sign papers allowing them to view your medical... more

Did Baby Borrowers Scare You?

Baby Borrowers scared me! And I'm an everyday Mom to two boys neither of which were born while I was a teenager. I caught a marathon of the show on WeTV (who is on Twitter, by the way) this past weekend. My Husband and I watched a few episodes together with the boys. Of course, when I say that we watched anything with the boys, I mean that we caught bits and pieces while playing, telling the children not to lick each other and laughing a lot as is the usual in our... more

Please Get Prenatal Care

An unplanned pregnancy can be scary. No matter your current lot in life, it can be a really daunting time in your life. Suddenly you are forced to think not only of yourself and your well being but the well being of the child growing within your womb. At the same time, you need to continue living your life as you were planning, whether that is working, going to school or both. (Or more!) While you will be very busy, do not use that, or fear, as an excuse to skip prenatal care.

I know that finding medical care, especially if you are uninsured, is possibly... more

Should you get Married because you are Pregnant?

There are a lot of young mothers or young pregnant mothers in the news lately such as Jamie Lynn Spears and Bristol Palin. When you read about either of these young women, one thing you often hear is that they are planning to get married. While I think that is great for them since it is their choice, I also hope it doesn’t send the wrong message out to some unwed expectant mothers. I wonder if they are wondering if they got married if their pregnancy might be more accepted.

Yes, you might feel more accepted. Having a baby while married is seen more acceptable by much of society versus having a baby out of wedlock, but should you get married just because you are pregnant?

Kelly Osbourne and Unplanned Pregnancy

No. Kelly Osbourne is not pregnant. She is, however, helping get the word out that you can prevent unplanned pregnancy. She is backing the World Contraception Day, which I mentioned in a previous post was yesterday.

This year's theme was "Your life, your... more

Ireland Taking a Proactive Approach

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Crisis Pregnancy Blog at 07:59 am , 434 words, 246 views

Perhaps Americans can learn a thing or two from how Ireland is approaching the subject of unplanned pregnancy. You know, from a proactive approach by addressing the use of contraception and the risks of unprotected sex. Far-fetched, I know, but I think they might be on to something here!

(Okay, I'll drop the sarcasm.)

But, seriously. Have you heard anything about World Contraception Day here in America? In Dublin they're preparing to "promote education and... more

Okay, Fine. You're Not Bristol.

This post is not political. Just a heads up.

I've been reading some commentary on what Bristol Palin's pregnancy means for and to other young mothers and mothers-to-be. Everyone is quick to point out that she comes from a family that is financially stable, is blessed with a family who is offering their support and will be marrying the father of her baby. And then many an article that I have read is quick to say, "But that's not what... more

Reminder: Adoptive Families are Human

While reading some posts in the Considering Your Options forum, I came across an interesting quote by an adoptive mother. I'll just throw it out here right off the bat:

I think if someone is on the road to adoption, through foster or privately, they have patience. I think that would be a given.

Teen Pregnancy in the Spotlight Once Again

Posted by : Coley S. in Crisis Pregnancy Blog at 02:04 pm , 334 words, 575 views
Categories: Teen Pregnancy, Teen Pregnancy

It seems that once again unplanned pregnancy and teen pregnancy is in the spotlight as the news of the unplanned pregnancy of Sarah Palin’s (the Republican Vice Presidential Candidate) came to light. I honestly debated whether or not I wanted to write about this. The media is reporting on this a lot at the moment but I also think that there are lessons to learn and things to think about as a result of this situation becoming public.

First of all, I feel sorry for Bristol Palin. If you have experienced an unplanned pregnancy your self, I’m sure you can relate to the... more

Visitors in the Hospital

Categories: Preparing for Hospital Stay/Labor

In my last post, I wrote about giving some thought to who you want to be in the delivery room with you when you are in labor. But another issue that will arise during your hospital stay is who you want or do not want to visit you in the hospital.

Typically most new mothers will have anywhere from one to three days in the hospital after giving birth. It depends on your health, hospital policy, what type of delivery you have, etc… Unless you take your baby home... more
